33 1/3 Cents a Pound, Episode 14, Ya Heard (Jan 2014)

Episode 14, Ya Heard! This show starts off with a powerful classic rock kick before going into a nice nerdcore DJ mix segment. In the third half of the show (what up Tom & Ray) you will hear a short mix of 4 genre-defying instrumental songs that I produced myself. I can't promise you'll like it, but I can promise you've never heard anything like it. I don't have any musical skill in terms of chords, keys or clefs -- or anything even resembling these talents or even an awareness of what these words mean. But I do get bass lines and keyboard or guitar melodies playing inside my head so I did my best to recreate them electronically. So there you have it! Finally the show wraps up with one of the most influential Jamaican singers of all time, Laurel Aitken, so enjoy that medley.

Deep Purple -- Hush
Black Keys -- Ten Cent Pistol
Grand Funk Railroad -- Mr. Limousine Driver
Lennie Hibbert -- Village Soul
Jackie Mittoo -- The Scientist
Santana -- Soul Sacrifice
Dr. Dooom (Kool Keith) -- I Followed You >>>

De La Soul -- Stone Age >>>
mc chris -- Blastic >>>
Lab Rats -- Devil’s Train
Joe Valeri -- Ray >>>
Joe Valeri -- D to D >>>
Joe Valeri -- Station >>>
Joe Valeri -- Errorz
Creedence Clearwater Revival -- I Put a Spell on You
Laurel Aitken & Court Jester's Crew -- Brown Eyed Girl
Laurel Aitken & House Of Rhythm -- Caledonia
Laurel Aitken Meets Floyd Lloyd & The Potato Five -- Sahara

33 1/3 Cents a Pound Episode 13 Been There Done That (Dec 2013)

I posted this episode on New Year's Eve, January 31, 2013, a few hours before the year ran out. Even though I had finished recording the episode early, I got lazy/busy around the holidays and it took me a while to post it. But at least I did get it up before the month (and year) ended. I thought it made sense to explore some of the artists I saw this year, so this special theme show edition -- Been There, Done That -- presents all artists that I saw perform live this year!

I've got Edward Sharpe and Red Baraat from Arts Fest; Escort and Conspirator, who played on my birthday at the Rex Theater; three local bands who helped close down the Shadow Lounge last Spring; plus several other performers who intrigued my eardrums last year. You can play it here by clicking below, listen on Mixcloud, or get the Mixcloud mobile app and subscribe to JoeSoHeady.

Toubab Krewe -- Devil Woman (free concert in Greensburg a few years ago)
BoomBox -- Shakedown Street >>> (show at the Rex)
Infected Mushroom -- Bass Nipple >>> (show at Stage AE)
Gramatik -- Born Ready >>> (show at the Rex)
Infected Mushroom -- Bass Nipple
Edward Sharpe -- Let’s Get High (Pittsburgh Arts Fest 2013)
Escort -- Cocaine Blues (the Rex)
Beam -- Defiance (Shadow Lounge Legacy Series and Thunderbird Cafe)
Beam -- True Bliss
Red Baraat -- Tunak Tunak Tun - LIVE (Pittsburgh Arts Fest 2013)
Mega-Def -- Another Night Peepin (Shadow Lounge Legacy Series)
Soma Mestizo -- Punch Code (Shadow Lounge Legacy Series)
Big Gigantic -- Wide Awake (show at the Metropolitan Theater in Morgantown)
Conspirator -- Orch Theme (the Rex)

P.S. I refer to this episode as "Beignet, Donut" [my pun for "Been There, Done That" (Copyright Joe Valeri 2013)].
